Last year I went to India for the first time. The colors, the spiritual warmth and loving social environment overwhelmed me. I knew I wanted to study dying fabric, but I was surprised to find myself falling in love with traditional block printing. It fueled my latest body of work: when I came back to my NY studio, I began bleaching patterns into bedsheets in response to this immersion into traditional craft. Last month, I returned to India to soak in the colors and incredible craft for a second time. I couldn’t have been more inspired. -Lauren Luloff, 2012
