It started with one brown stone. I kept seeing it everyday on the way to my studio. Seduced by its bean shape and chalky brown color, I broke down one day and shuttled it upstairs with me. Initially I thought it would be inspiration for my paintings but as I began playing with it turning it over and balancing it on its side with the help of other little rocks, I started to see unique seemingly singular arrangements of this brown stone. Eventually, after many experiments, I found a sequence for placing the stone with 3 other smaller ones. I had to just leave it that way. A puzzle had been worked out in a way that felt strangely similar to how I solve painting problems. -Benjamin King, 2012
