Pointed Splat (red/yellow with color blocks), 36″ x 36″, oil on linen. 2012

Katia and James. 2006

I try to make paintings that have extreme visual clarity, lightness of being with depth, severity, variation, and complexity, while remaining essentially very simple. I like to think of accuracy and contradictions. My paintings’ surfaces are sensitively hand made, so as to convey a humanness. The images are not intended to refer to anything specific.

I also enjoy taking photos of artists, particularly in natural light. I’ve found that those who are constantly searching, and are trying regularly to express their own truths, are often captivating to look at.
