This series of paintings are coming, very much directly, from my little weaving project of making potholders. (I’m making a potholder for each attendee of my upcoming wedding). I love the sensuality of weaving potholders, inventing new patterns and finding what will happen when warp and weft are partly planned, partly discovered…I now view paint strokes as weaving marks, each stroke done wet into wet upon the canvas. The tactility of the paint mirrors the tactility of the fabric, and “weaving” commences…I don’t entirely know what will happen but the grid is always there…patterns develop, fall apart and come together. -Emily Auchincloss, 2012
this is so fabulous, potholders!
