The buddy photo I chose for Mound #8 is kind of dumb but I think that my dog, who is very black and shiny, is one reason why black got in this painting. He lies around on my white studio floor and it was this daily visual contrast (and the fact that I love my dog) that the black got slathered on almost the whole left side. -Louise Belcourt, 2012
